Bird Feeder

Day One of our Summer of Fun! I learned an important lesson: don't tell your five year old son you're starting a Summer of Fun and then pull out a bird feeder. He wasn't very impressed :) However, my goals were accomplished:

  • It was something new, that we had never done.
  • Aiden stayed engaged, and practiced his fine motor skills without realizing it :)
  • We have been able to watch it since we hung it, waiting for the birds to notice it too! We tried singing them a little "go to the tree" song, but it hasn't worked as of yet :)
To make the bird feeder, you will need:
  • toast or stale bread
  • yarn or ribbon
  • cheerios
First, make a hole in the bread, using a pencil or a pen.

Next, string the toast and the cheerios onto the ribbon:

you are done! Finally, hang the feeder in your tree!

UPDATE:

The birds LOVED the feeder- or at least part of it. They ate all of the bread, but left the Cheerios! So, we are thinking we'll make another, all-toast feeder :)
